Description

I was looking for a desktop to do video editing and some light gaming so I went for AMD Ryzen build. As it is my first time assembling by myself I faced quite a few challenges.

Including having a hard time pulling the psu cable from the motherboard header. Also, because the ram I ordered was a bit too tall I could not install one of the AIO fan onto the radiator, so I had to buy a noctua slim fan to fit into the space, and then moved the original aio fan to the back of the case.

Overall quite happy with the parts and the end result. The overclocked results aren't the best but I'm satisfied with them. And definitely enjoying the RGB lighting =)

Part Reviews

CPU

At $345 cdn I have no complaints. Good enough for games and rendering is quite fast.

CPU Cooler

5 Stars! The fans are quiet, the rgb lights are pretty and works well with motherboard light syncing program. Keeps my Ryzen 7 2700x cpu at around 69C under load. Nothing to complain!

Motherboard

Good motherboard, does everything I need it to be. Do be careful with the ram height. With the placement of the ram sticks I was not able to install one of my AIO water cooler's fan. Overclock runs pretty smooth, with temperature of around 67C.

Memory

The ram works well and I was able to get it to 3000 hz. Only thing is that it does NOT sync with the motherboard. It does a rainbow light up but not in sync with the motherboard lightning and you cannot change it. On the website I believe it says it's compatible with mystic light. But No, it doesn't.

Storage

Got a deal on these. The test result: read speed 3426mb/s, write 2780mb/s

Video Card

absolutely beautiful graphics card. got them on a deal. Runs really quite and performs well. Did not go above 70C with stress test. The default curve actually prevents the gpu fan from spinning below 60C, but I changed it. Original boost is 1830, I was able to put another 110 on top in afterburner.

Case

So many places to route your cables. The psu compartment, however, is very small. You have to plug in all your cables first before you install the psu onto the case. And making any changes are a pain. Beautiful lights though. The 3 front case fans create a bit high pitched whine but its not very loud. A guest would probably not notice that the PC is turned on if they didn't pay attention.

Power Supply

Modular and works. Got rated highly from reviewers.

why is there a ryzen 7 2700x but in the second picture there is a picture of a ryzen 5 box

Ryzenbuild2018 submitter 1 Build 3 points 3 months ago

Amazon actually sent me the wrong Ryzen 5 in the first place. I didn't have a cpu when I started the build so I put the Ryzen 5 into the picture. However, I waited until Ryzen 7 2700x arrived to actually put it into my PC. Sorry for the confusion!

There's also a noctua box but all fans in the case are unicorn-puke

Ryzenbuild2018 submitter 1 Build 2 points 3 months ago

Haha... you're right, it does look like that if you don't like the rainbow colors =) I am enjoying the colors. I actually had the RGB for the graphics card turned off when I took the picture, otherwise... 1 more rgb piece in the case!

are you using the msi software to sync all the rgb lights. Just so that you can get the most points aesthetically, i would recommend you replace the noctua with the third fan closest to the bottom. Either way, really good looking pc

Ryzenbuild2018 submitter 1 Build 2 points 3 months ago

Thanks for the comment Zirf! Yes I am using Msi Mystic Light to sync all of the rgb lights. Your suggestion is a good Idea, however, the main point I got the noctua case fan was because I needed a "SLIM" fan. The original aio fan that came with the AIO water cooler is too thick and I could not get it into the system because my ram is too tall and blocking the installation.

Zirf 1 point 3 months ago

ohh that makes a lot more sense!

Should I buy this case? I heard the fans are super bad (for lighting) and the airflow sucks. What do you think??

Ryzenbuild2018 submitter 1 Build 2 points 3 months ago

I love this case. The Front RGB fans are very good looking and you can sync them to motherboard with MB programs, or they can be controlled by the button next to your Power button on front IO panel.

Very good airflow, 10 times better than MasterBox Pro 5 RGB I was thinking of getting originally.

The ONLY thing I dont like about this case is that PSU compartment is VERY small. I have a 650w PSU and it fits with not too much room. AND you must preplug in your psu cables before you put them into case otherwise you wont be able to plug them in. Hope that helps!

As per my pictures, I think they look beautiful. But to each's own =)

4.7/5 score from me

Thanks! I read on Newegg that the 2-3 pin adapter that comes with the fans are flimsy and bad, so I didn’t know. I’ll order it tomorrow for my build!

Ryzenbuild2018 submitter 1 Build 1 point 3 months ago

No problem! By the way, the front case fans are supposed to be able to sync to your motherboard light program. However, I never plugged them in because I only have 1 such header in my MB and I used it for my aio water cooler. So I don't know if the case sync works or not, but I think it will work.

I just ordered a ASUS mobo, but it only has one slot for RGB. Good thing it’s compatible with Aura Sync. I’ll be ordering this case later today. Thanks for helping me come to a decision!

Ryzenbuild2018 submitter 1 Build 1 point 3 months ago

No problem! I was in your situation just 2 weeks ago. Capartspicker helped me out quite a bit and I'm glad I can pay it forward. Have fun with your build and send me a shout if you have further questions or when you complete your build. Would love to see it!

How are you liking the ram?

Ryzenbuild2018 submitter 1 Build 1 point 3 months ago

The performance was good. It was like 90 percentile on userbenchmark for 3000 hz ram. I manually oc'd it to 3000. Bios just let me go 2933.

The ram once plugged into Motherboard has a good rainbow RGB. However, I was not able to control it or sync it with my msi mystic light program. When website said it can. So that was a little bit dissapointing. I'd give it 4.5/5 stars. BTW it is a bit tall.

Hey_Im_Nate 1 point 3 months ago

Watching a video it appears that you can only control them using an Asus program?

Ryzenbuild2018 submitter 1 Build 1 point 3 months ago

Official company site says it works with mystic light, so i dont know really.. But I don't regret getting it. The performance and lighting is still good, just, you cannot sync it with the rest.

Hey_Im_Nate 1 point 3 months ago

Yep. And a decent amount of RAM for the price.

TheDogeLord 1 point 2 months ago

Where did you find the DeepCool Castle? I can't seem to find any :(

Ryzenbuild2018 submitter 1 Build 1 point 2 months ago

I got mine from Canada computers, online. Had to get it delivered.

How well is the cooling on the motherboard being that they're not finned heat sinks have you tried over clocking yet? Was thinking of getting this motherboard but am a little worried about the temps.

toon_link_ 1 point 1 month ago

This is a really good looking build, good job!

yozza666 1 point 1 month ago

Cool I'm working things out on my first build using the same gpu/cpu mobo. How was it to build , I am also trying to work out water cooling for it too , but jus to know what kinda noise level do yours put out on the cooling system

Citrus.S 1 point 1 month ago

How are the stock coolers on this case?

Comet_ 1 point 1 month ago

Is the mobo's rgb customizable??

What is your CPU clock speed at?

lumaster101 1 point 20 days ago

I have the same parts not even on purpose. This really helped me.

Gave you an up vote
