The White Pony origin: The build is white, it's a reference to those who (sniff) like to party, and most of all it's just a silly name because those super serious, elite gamer, Transformers-sounding names are just uncomfortable. I mean we are naming a computer here..
This is my first gaming build. It may not be very unique, but it's what I was feelin'. White and black just looks clean. Admittedly I didn't do much research at all to see if going Skylake was the best option, I just kinda went with what I was familiar with and it seems to be fine.
CPU: I went with a 4690k because it was a very capable i5 and I could overclock it. Not much else to it. No need for i7 and all that hyperthreading nonsense given my uses. (OC'd to 4.0 just using the genie. I know if I did it myself I would get better results, but the build is new and I'm just getting settled in before I start messing with overclocking)
Cooler: The Cryorig H7 is essentially a 212 Evo except more aesthetically pleasing and easier to install from what I hear.
MOBO: The all too familiar MSI Z97S Krait board. This one was good enough and looked purrty. Not too much thought here.
RAM: Another common choice. I felt like 16 gigs would be good for a while. Sleek looking white memory. I might throw in 2 black sticks at some point just because I can and it's not that expensive. Might be useful in video editing.
Storage: There's not much to explain.
GPU: The trusty 390. Great value for performance, 8GB VRAM will be good if I make the jump to 1440p. AMD is constantly lampooned for their heat issues. Well word on the streets is that Sapphire keeps their cards cool, so that solves that problem. As an added bonus the backplate/fans and the card in general is neutral colored.
Case: S340. Yes, it's used in every other build.. But when a budget friendly case looks that nice with easy cable management, it's hard to pass up.
Threw in the BitFenix alchemy 2.0 LED strip and some Silverstone cable extensions for looks. Will probably invest in some cable combs. Finishes off the build for not too much cash, especially those extensions. Good stuff.
Hope ya liked it. I didn't feel the need to take a ton of pictures at the time of the build so 4 is all you're getting. Also, just a disclaimer: I haven't been in the PC game for too terribly wrong so if some of my info is off just let me know. Thanks for ya time.
