Description

The White Pony origin: The build is white, it's a reference to those who (sniff) like to party, and most of all it's just a silly name because those super serious, elite gamer, Transformers-sounding names are just uncomfortable. I mean we are naming a computer here..

Anyway.

This is my first gaming build. It may not be very unique, but it's what I was feelin'. White and black just looks clean. Admittedly I didn't do much research at all to see if going Skylake was the best option, I just kinda went with what I was familiar with and it seems to be fine.

CPU: I went with a 4690k because it was a very capable i5 and I could overclock it. Not much else to it. No need for i7 and all that hyperthreading nonsense given my uses. (OC'd to 4.0 just using the genie. I know if I did it myself I would get better results, but the build is new and I'm just getting settled in before I start messing with overclocking)

Cooler: The Cryorig H7 is essentially a 212 Evo except more aesthetically pleasing and easier to install from what I hear.

MOBO: The all too familiar MSI Z97S Krait board. This one was good enough and looked purrty. Not too much thought here.

RAM: Another common choice. I felt like 16 gigs would be good for a while. Sleek looking white memory. I might throw in 2 black sticks at some point just because I can and it's not that expensive. Might be useful in video editing.

Storage: There's not much to explain.

GPU: The trusty 390. Great value for performance, 8GB VRAM will be good if I make the jump to 1440p. AMD is constantly lampooned for their heat issues. Well word on the streets is that Sapphire keeps their cards cool, so that solves that problem. As an added bonus the backplate/fans and the card in general is neutral colored.

Case: S340. Yes, it's used in every other build.. But when a budget friendly case looks that nice with easy cable management, it's hard to pass up.

Threw in the BitFenix alchemy 2.0 LED strip and some Silverstone cable extensions for looks. Will probably invest in some cable combs. Finishes off the build for not too much cash, especially those extensions. Good stuff.

Hope ya liked it. I didn't feel the need to take a ton of pictures at the time of the build so 4 is all you're getting. Also, just a disclaimer: I haven't been in the PC game for too terribly wrong so if some of my info is off just let me know. Thanks for ya time.

Very clean and minimalistic setup. Also the cable management is extremely well done! +1

Needs MOAR pictures! (More angles from your case's window)

Infact, use the third picture as the first. It's a great thumbnail.

+1 for White, clean build

Totally agree! Every build named like some kind of villain: <insert color here> death, frost, beast, killer, lightning etc... They all ridiculus.

That's why I plan on naming my first build "Red and black beast (my first gaming pc)". It is the perfect stereotype

I am partial to this case. I love the simplicity and cleanliness of this case and this build.

I cant help but think of the Deftones amazing album "White Pony" when I see your title.

I've watched you change. Now you feel Alive You Feel Alive I've watched you change It's like you never Had wings

+1 for a dope clean set up.

What speakers are those?

Sony SS-B1000 bookshelf speakers. I got them certified refurbished or whatever amazon's little service is. Basically brand new and were like $50. Sound good enough and with the $20 amp I can make em as loud and bassy as I want.

How much is your whole setup?, if you don't mind me asking.

Probably close to around $2,000. There's an Xbox One in the black little stand that's probably hard to see. That+ Keyboard/Mouse+Headphones is already ~600. Throw in monitor,PC, and other little misc items and it adds up.

Damn, thats not bad, i might do a black and white build myself, i was going with black and red, but thats a little bit overdone

also, one last thing

how much did the cable covers cost?

  • 2 points

They look like the silverstone ones, so depending on which ones you get it's like $8-$12. Edit: Per cable.

Are the white cables extenders or is it a whole new kit. i would like to get red cables but cant find anywhere at a cheap price

  • 1 point

Just extensions. I couldn't bring myself to cough up around $100 for a kit. I don't know if they have red ones but I found these Silverstone ones just on amazon for around $8-12 depending on the cable.

Update: They do have red ones. 12.99 on amazon for the 24 pin at the moment. There are also some cool red/black ones that in my opinion look higher quality than ones just pure red but that's subjective.

Nice build. Could I ask about the details of the cable extensions? Length, price, etc.
