Description

Things got a little out of hand when I tried to build a reasonable new gaming rig.

How many pc's do you have? And that old Apple computer does even still work?

rob8086 submitter 2 Builds 1 point 19 months ago

Fewer now! I sold that one with Bender on it (my previous build) as well as another PC I had laying around to help refill my horribly-abused piggy bank.

And that Apple computer, a Performa 550, does still work. 100% original hardware, too.

I'm surprised cause a computer that old is extinct because there are no replacement parts for it.

Tell me about it... there is a hardware upgrade I need to do to push it to the next version of the OS and I can't find the part anywhere. Closest I found was on a website where they USED to carry it but "haven't had that in years!"

I know your pain. As time passes old tech becomes lost to the passage of time.

How do you like MSI as a motherboard? I’m trying to decide between MSI and Asus

rob8086 submitter 2 Builds 1 point 19 months ago

This is my first MSI motherboard after years of building with strictly ASUS boards. Honestly could not be happier. Super stable out of the box, the default XMP settings for my DDR-4000 are perfect without my having to manually tweak things, and their auto-update software actually has a server to talk to (my last ASUS came with auto-update software that was pointed at 0.0.0.0 with no way to change it)!

The slot armor is a good touch too, given how heavy GPUs have become. Lots of little touches that add up to what is, in my opinion, a superior product.

Those Gpu load temps seem pretty high, you considered undervolting?

rob8086 submitter 2 Builds 1 point 19 months ago

I was considering something like that, but from what I've read that's typical of these Ti's. Still, I don't like being eight degrees away from my max (the top card has actually gotten up to 86). I'm also considering doing a custom loop and water cooling the things, but to do it right is another $800 I really don't have at this point.

MSI logo in white would compliment the white corsair logo very well, or download Corsair Link and change the logo on the cooler to red as well.

rob8086 submitter 2 Builds 1 point 19 months ago

I just changed those to white today! Haha

Hell yeah my dude! I got a white MSI logo and White corsair logo as well. Then my PSU cover has a white Corsair LED Logo as well

It is really more of an update. I shouldn't have posted that one since it wasn't finished. Different GPU, different RAM, different SSD... decided to just nuke it and publish a new one.
