Motherboard smackdown:

Gigabyte Z370 Gaming 7 vs Asus maximus Hero X - I own both boards see my prior build

Bios - Asus is much more straighforward. GB has a ton of submenus but gets the job done. Winner : Asus

Overclock - I used Adaptive overclocking (manual mode both are fine and OC very similarly). Asus vcore doesn't fluctuate as much as GB. Both handle 5.0ghz no problem but GB vcore would go from 0.87V to 1.4V. Whereas Asus would go from 0.8v to 1.34v. Winner: Asus

Sound - Both are great, Gigabyte Creative software is just a little extra over what Asus offers. Winner: Gigabyte

Temperatures - both can handle a beating with ease. GB has a VRM Sensor which Asus used to have in the earlier versions. but Asus no longer includes this with their Hero boards (lots of backlash from users if you search for this). Winner : Gigabyte

Build Quality - The VRM heatsinks on the Asus board are so nice to the touch and heavy and they have this brushed aluminum texture. Also preinstalled washers is always a plus if you want to replace the heatsinks like i did. Winner: Asus

Features - GB has 1 extra m.2 while Asus has more USB ports in the back. No Winner here.

Aesthetics - Asus has less RGB but being subtle doesnt mean worse , to me it just looks more elegant. GB has a ton more RGB and they do feel like they are just spreaded on the board with no rhyme or reason but I do love the LED strips around the PCIE and memory modules. I think this was a really nice touch. So as far as hardware GB takes the win. However, Aura software works much better period. Gigabyte Fusion is something else, oftentimes lights wont come on , software wouldnt start, hard to figure things out etc. So even though I want to give this Gigabyte, I feel like this is more of a TIE between the 2 boards.

Overall I recommend both. I would go with the one you like the most and decide based on your prior experience with the brand , looks , and features.

THANK YOU PCPP FOR FEATURING MY BUILD!!!!

8 builds on this site are my own and they all led to this so it feels good and thanks again !!!

B E A U T I F U L! One of my top 5 favorites on this site so far. I love the vertical GPU with those colors. I want to put a heart eyes emoji but I can't. Nice job painting the rad too!

  • 1 point

thx btw i did not paint the rads. Primochill sells all kinds of colors. But hey ill take the compliment lol . I did paint the panels but the rads nah I would not have done as good of a job as Primochill did :).

Well you put it all together nicely! I just realized it's called Laser Tag, and it definitely reminds me of the color scheme of "Q-Zar" where we used to play laser tag as kids. Loved that ****.

I like this build. Winner: lotta RGB

  • 1 point

thanks. its not so much RGB as its the UV lighting that makes everything pop. the green leds on the mainboard and the fans are actually dimmed lol , they were waay too bright but they still pop like crazy at night time because of the UV reactive components. its funny it looks so dull during day time (like your average green/black build) and so bright at night time lol. I love UV components

Wow that is really something. Solid parts of coarse but the internal aesthetics really come together as a whole. Enjoy!

+1 no doubt But dude don't be surprised if a copy of your build shows up here lol. Since i want to do it the exact same way. I had the loop planned out the same you did. I want to focus on orange since i will mainly use AMD Parts. Btw which vertical bracket did you use ?

Anyway - awesome build !

Thank you sir! I used the Lian Li vertical kit that is specific to the 011 dynamic enclosure. I bought it from newegg for like 60 or something. You may be able to get away with a different kit because if you replicate my setup, I am not using the base platform so im only using the cable and the back piece to affix the card to the case.

Thank you very much... You've inspired me tho... Haha. May have to rip off the multi-uv color look and ditch the zombie... Love the orange and blue incorporated with the green uv! My next coolant change I might have to redo the look of the I think ;) Love uv!!

Super great build and will get its feature!

Ha! I didn't realize that this is the same build we talked about the bends a few weeks ago... The Dynamic gaming build! Wow... Amazing that the quality uv lights really changed the whole look of this build man! You redid the bends too I see... Didn't take long for you to tinker again haha... For the better tho! Looks better! Featured too so worth the extra effort :)

Hehe thanks yeah I ran into some issues with my old Mainboard and sent it in for an RMA. So instead of waiting for the replacement( like normal people do ) I decided what the heck get a mono block get the Asus hero because I’ve always liked that board get a ton of ek fittings from performance PCs and well upgrade time lol.

Agreed and thanks. This is a fantastic case. The fact that i dropped 100 bucks on preorder for it is just mind blowing to me. i paid twice as much for much less in the past. ITs rare to see an enclosure that is both pretty and very much performance oriented.

its like the night at the museum with my build(maybe that should have been the name). During day time its just chillin mostly dark colored (forest green fluid on mostly black with some orange accents) nothing that stands out. But at nighttime this thing comes to life with those UV strips lighting up everything. Thanks man

+1 and a well-deserved FEATURE!

This is a beautiful smexy build!!! How do you stay focused on the screen with that build all lit up next to the screen? Or do you sometimes turn off all the RGB? If it were me, it would have like having a beautiful sexy swimsuit supermodel sitting and posing next to the television... Do I look at the television or do I look at the supermodel? How can I focus on watching the movie if that supermodel keeps showing off next to the television?

  • 1 point

hehe how do I stay focus? I don't I'm pretty much losing every time im playing games lol. I do turn off the color blue on the fans but I still stare at it lol. Luckily for me during day time the UV effect fades out and I can actually focus on the screen. 1st world problems man lol

Would you recommend using the Lian Li vertical bracket (without installing the bottom part) over using the CoolerMaster vertical gpu kit? I think your solution looks really nice, but I'm really worried about the card just hanging there..

  • 1 point

in my case, the hardline cooling also provides some support and keeps the card from moving. It basically "locks it in place" between the fittings and the pump kit right next to it. without that I am not sure I would have been comfortable leaving the card hanging like that. So if youre going for a hardline loop then I wouldn't worry. if not then I would probably think about using something else or just be extra careful moving the case around.

  • 1 point

I will be doing a hardline loop, so I guess I will go for it then and take extra care if the case needs to be moved around. Thanks for your reply! :)

  • 1 point

yeah It should be fine. mine never moves really plus my 3 yo daughter punched my case the front window a few times and … well it still works lmao.

I'm really liking the water cooling scheme you have here. By any chance, is the yellow for the Sinestro corps and Blue for hope?
