Description

Update 13MAR15: I added an additional SP120 on the bottom of the case as an intake and changed the graphics card to something that would suit her needs for gaming a bit more. As an added bonus, the new GTX 960 from MSI comes in white! It's been working out great for her, almost at beefy as the GTX 770 we had previously, much quieter and draws less power. I'll be using the 770 in a future SLI gaming build for myself.

A build I made for my wife's Twitch streaming channel! Some of the major parts (CPU, GPU, Cooler, Storage, Capture Card) were recycled from a previous build but I purchased more RAM and made her case more compact and flashy! Sorry for the lack of during build pictures, the Air 240 is such a great case to work with I barely had time to sit back and take a break; once you get going it's hard to stop!

Feel free to ask me any questions about the build and why I chose certain parts, it's all pretty self explanatory but the previous build has a lot of good info as well, thanks!

Wow...Purple and white...reminds me of something...rare...and majestic, +1 for cable management, i wished I had a better case, I have to put the cables in the drive bays :(

Thanks! Yeah, she really loves the colors and the case was a DREAM to work with. It makes cable management WAY easy and the best part about it in my opinion is the fact that the case doesn't look EMPTY like most Full ATX cases. It's hard to make an ATX build look aesthetically pleasing unless you really have a bunch of components to fill up the case. Micro ATX builds are more compact but not to the point that you sacrifice too many PCI slots and ease of building.

Sorry for the ramble! XD just my two cents I guess lol

Hey quick question! How were things when you put the fans in? That's all just thinking of using this case for my build :D

  • 1 point

It was a little tight to be honest but definitely doable. I wanted to get the two AF120's on the top of the case as well as the 80mm Fractal fans on the left side and this proved to be interesting lol The H100i fits fine with either a pull or push config but I would be hard pressed to fit another two fans in front of it for a full push/pull config.

Thanks for the comment!

I hope you can answer my question, but I have seen that it is very hard to get a 120mm fan at the top due to where the cables on the mobo are. How difficult was it? And how cool and quiet is the case? I am building one for my friend and she and I love this case, but I want to be sure it is the best choice

  • 1 point

Getting the second 120mm fan on the top wasn't bad at all, especially since I didn't do a push/pull config with the H100i and the mobo that we used didn't get in the way at all. We were also able to squeeze (easily) two 80mm fans in the back which is something I haven't seen very often on other Air 240 builds. The case itself is EXTREMELY quiet when put on the "Standard" fan setting in Asus' Suite and is only barely noticeable on the "Turbo" setting. I would HIGHLY recommend this case to anyone, I'll be using the black version of this case for a second build soon.

Best of luck!

Nice, clean, compact, and sleek; with great pictures.

You're aware that since you have a Wii U, your Wii is no longer necessary? (Unless you want to play Gamecube games).

Or Wii U games...

The Wii U also plays Wii games. You can also transfer all your DLC and save files from the Wii to the Wii U.

How are the Fractal 80mm fans? I'm thinking of using them in my current build.

  • 1 point

They're great! I was a little afraid that they would be too noisy (because everyone online says that 80mm fans are loud as all hell) but they're super quiet so far! I wanted to use the rubber mounts that came with them but just couldn't figure out how to put them in with the tight space I was working with in that corner.

Thanks!

Those 4 sticks of Fury look epic thinking of just using them instead of dominator platinums and save a pretty penny

  • 1 point

Thanks! And yeah, that's a good call. They reflect the purple LED's pretty well and match the color scheme too! Not to mention they're way cheaper than Dominator Platinums, but I have to admit that I also love the Platinums lol

how did you O.C the 4790k @ 4.5ghz since H97 doesn allow overclocking....

  • 1 point

Great question!

I'm not exactly sure how I was able to overclock it because it was previously overclocked in a prior build. I recycled the same CPU, SSD and HDD in this new build as I did in my old build and all of the software (Asus Suite is what I used to overlock the CPU on the old build) was still on the SSD. When I run the automatic overclocking utility on Asus Suite with the new H97m board it overclocks the CPU just fine, not sure exactly how this happens but it does lol I think this is a great board but if you don't have a different one to overclock the chip I would say spend the extra $10-$20 on a Z97m board.

Hope that helped!

This is beautiful. Ah purple is my favorite and looks great with the white. How do you like those 80mm Fractal Design fans? Are they pretty quiet?

  • 1 point

Thanks for the kind words! Yeah, I expected the 80mm fans to be loud but they actually stay pretty quiet! The only thing I hear nowadays is the pump from the H100i but I'm pretty sure mine is defective in some way lol I would definitely recommend the fractal design fans, they even came with rubber mounting tabs but I couldn't figure out how to fit them in that tight of a space.

  • 2 points

Thanks! Yeah i heard the H100i is pretty loud unfortunately.. :/ though the Enermax Liqtech 240 is an amazing all in one cooler. Ill have to try those fans out for my friends upcoming build in that case :)

I love this colour scheme! What happened to the GPUs? Some pics have the MSI and other a stock GeForce?

  • 1 point

The old GPU was a reference GTX 770, we ended up putting a newer GTX 960 to match the color scheme a bit more. I'm going to recycle the 770 for an SLI build that I'll be doing soon though!

How is the GPU I'm thinking of using it in my build.

I'm talking about the MSI 960. GeForce 770 is too expensive for my lifestyle.

  • 1 point

It's great! Runs most games at high-ultra settings ~60fps or above in 1080p. It also overclocked pretty well with MSI afterburner, would definitely recommend for the price!

A Corsair Air case with 6 fans? Sounds very airy to me :P. Really nice build! How's the motherboard by the way? I'm thinking about putting one in my build...

  • 1 point

Thanks! Yeah, it's a great case, love all of the fan mounting options! The motherboard has worked out great for my wife's needs, it's very stable, has an okay amount of fan headers and looks good to boot. If you're looking to SLI look elsewhere though, this bad boy only has one PCIE-16x slot.

Feel free to hit me up if you have any other questions!

Hi! Super nice build man! I bought a prebuilt msi nightblade (prebuilt=bad i know) with a gtx 960 tiger just like the one you have, was thinking about switching case, "rebuilding" the px in an air 240. The question is; i have read online that you cant close the sidepanel when you have this graphic card, is this true? And what you think about the rest of the build? MSI B85 (from the other pc) I5-4460 (from the other pc) CRYORIG C7 (buying new) Samsung 850 evo 250gb (had one in my mac before i sold it, took it out since the lady who bought it didn't want it) WD blue 1 tb (from the other pc) gtx 960 TIGER (from the other pc) 8GB ram (from the other pc)

  • 2 points

Hey man!

Sounds like your build is pretty great, the 4460 with the GTX 960 is awesome pairing and you'll get a good amount of bang for your buck. Don't worry about the clearance with the MSI GTX 960 OC (TIGER) model, it's really small and has plenty of room before the side panel. I've seen people with the full red Twin Frozr model run into issues because of how much the cooler sticks out but this one is a perfect fit. The cryorig C7 is also a great choice, I love those coolers and the fact that they made a low profile one is really cool of them!

Definitely post your build once you get it done, I'd love to see it!

  • 2 points

Thanks for the fast reply man! To know that i dont need to buy a new graphics card is so good! I also think the cryorig c7 is a godd cooler, since it is so low profile, and the colors are black and white, which is the theme i will have. I for sure will post the build on here when i am done to let others with the same problem as me know that they fit together nicely!

See kids. It pays to read..

The 770 is not a bad videocard, even in this budget.

  • 1 point

Totally, she doesn't do much hardcore PC gaming but the power is there if she needs it. I've had great results with the 770 and I've been able to run most games at High-Ultra settings with 60 or close to 60fps lol

  • 1 point

No worries! Yeah, the 770 was leftover from our other computer. Hoping to make myself a beefed up rig soon (within the next 3-4 months) with a pair of 980's! I did the measurements and the Gigabyte Windforce model should fit even with the front RAD of the H100i mounted with fans.

Thanks for the comment!
