Part Reviews

CPU

Enable PBO in bios and you are done

Motherboard

First B450 to get stable bios + mATX. Great VRM, overclocks RAM perfectly.

Memory

B-die. Ebay is your friend. Running 3733MHz 16-15-15-32 because of infinity fabric.

Storage

Installed on pcie 2.0 x2 slot . ~ 800MB/s . Still better than sata for the same price.

Video Card

This is probably the best deal I got. used for £410 plus £15 for delivery.

Case

Wanted an mATX that fits in carry on luggage.

Power Supply

Very silent - fan doesn't turn on unless necessary.

Great to see another B450M Mortar owner. Probably the best $100 buck motherboard I've ever bought. Sturdy little tank that's a diamond in the rough among the forgotten Micro form factors.

OMG, the front panel fans installed to blow air out? Why?

pretty sure the 301 is designed that way.

Not OP but as I understand it blower style cards need to draw air from inside he unit. So it’s more beneficial to blow the hot air from the radiator out of the chassis and use other fans as intake because it doesn’t matter as much.

Kyle from awesomehardware/bitwit did a test a couple years ago that showed that the heat output by an aio into a case is negligible when it comes to gpu temperatures.

I would strongly recommend switching the front to intake if only for dust management.

How were you able to OC ram above 3466? I thought that was the cap for all b450 boards?

  • 1 point

ram OC depends on the memory controller of the CPU and no so much on the motherboard.

How long does it take you to POST? I've picked up the 3700x + 450M Mortar combo and I'm having to wait like 40 seconds from the time I press the power switch to the time it starts loading windows :S

Have you enabled UEFI in bios? It takes 26 seconds for me.

Nice build

Just built my 3700x into a mini itx case and find the wraith gets crazy loud under full load, does yours also?

Also where you quoted cpu temperature under load (70), is that 100% all core load using a benchmarking tool/which one? I find my 3700x slowly climbing to 90 degrees under full load and my wraith sounding like a jet engine.
