Ok i guess i have to say a few words about this just so i can save you some time from asking.

First of all,i really don't need this pc.I mostly play old games(as you can probably guess from FFVII logo) Mostly emulators from PSX, Nintendo 64 , Playstation 2 , GC.Graphics are are not my first priority and will never be. Even when i play some of the latest games i never go for max settings. So the reason i build this was mainly for fun.I wanted something beautiful for my desk.

I must also clarify that this is not a new build.The S340 housed a lot of different hardware over the time i have it.

So the mods. 1.Changed the fan of the stock Dark Rock 3 2.Printed the exact same logo of Samsung disk and put a little extra flavor in them. 3.Removed the hhd cage so i can have a more clear interior and better cable management 4.Removed the side panel and made one from plexi and thumbs screws 4.Used carbon tape to cover up the holes where the side panel locked 5.painted some parts of the case white(the ones where the gpu mounts) 6.painted the rams.

Most gorgeous 480 for me.Good cooling but expensive.

NZXT S340 ATX Mid Tower Case

Good case with some minor flaws like ; no fan filter on bottom , nothing to prevent vibration for hard drives , no removable hdd cage , small support on radiators , lack of another fan on top / radiator support on top and a really bad stock side panel,scratches easily.(nzxt even sent me a 2nd one for free)

Power Supply

Cooler Master 650 W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply

Not the best for it's money but still good.

This is a build after my own heart. I too am an FFVII nut (as you can see with my Tifa profile pic), and I too wanna build a black and white rig with a BeQuiet cooler. The S340 is one of the three cases I was looking into, and Im just holding out for Kaby Lake and 1080ti.

It looks absolutely stellar. This is a build anyone would be proud of.

"I believe K cpus are a waste of money. The extra performance you get is really bad."

I find this to be an interesting statement. Currently on PCP, a 6600 is $215 at 3.3 GHz while a 6600k is $228 at 3.5 GHz. Mathematically, that equates to a 6% increase in clock speed and a 6% increase in price. That's not to mention that I've seen 6600k processors up at 4.3+ GHz, which is a 30% increase over the 6600.

I understand that clock speed alone doesn't indicate processing speed, but I would still defend the k-series as "worth it", at least in this scenario.

Still in game performance is 0-3 fps even between a 6500 - 6600K.On top of the K cpu also put the Z motherboard and the extra cooling which K cpu's don't... It's a lot more than 6% and the gains most of the times are 0(at least in gaming)

I don't mean to cause an argument, but I'd like to know where you saw 0-3 FPS gain in performance. Here is a video comparing the 6500 to a 6600k which shows 8%+ FPS gains before overclocking: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0tN_n5ek1Y. Of course, it depends on the game, but the video still shows at least 5+ FPS gains across modern games.

I can agree that there are extra costs associated with the overclocking motherboard and cooler. This is why I mentioned that a 30%+ boost in clock speed is expected from an overclocked 6600k. Running a 6600k at stock would be a poor financial decision.

Not quite a reliable video.That's the reason of the dislikes i guess.I saw the differences on my own hardware.I rarely trust youtubers for obvious reasons. 30% clock speed doesn't mean a 30% boost.Not even in the most cpu bound game out there. When i had watercooling(same build https://s22.postimg.org/xpsx2fi4h/DSC0768.jpg ) i tried many test between a vast range in mhz(4000-4.700) and i also compared it with my other 4690(non k) pc.Small differences.Not worthy of the extra money.

Even though that can be true, not everybody buys an overclockable CPU just for gaming. It can be used, for example, for editing and rendering. There, it's as important to have good RAM and CPU as it is to have a good GPU. Plus, at the end, the processor is the main core of the build, so you want it to be as fast a possible.

I switched from a 6600 to a 6700K and saw quite an improvement. Since you don't play the latest games on the highest settings(and on a 60Hz monitor I'm sure), that could be why you don't realize the difference.

Really not much to say.I really don't see the point describing a pc.

We want to hear about the build man! What went well, what didn't, stuff like that.

Also; the S340 Elite has been added to the database now.

My only gripe is the PSU. Everything else is awesome. Setup looks pretty clean too.

Also, aren't you going to need more than 250GB of storage?

OK later this day i will say a few words. This is not the Elite S340.I did this way before the Elite was even announced. Seems like nzxt has the same taste with me. I have 2 X 250Gb Samsungs.And an external that i rarely use. PSU is fine. Thanks for your comment.

Don't be so picky.For like 10 years i've been using psus that were not even 80+ and never had a problem. And i live in a place where we have a lot of problems with electricity.

We are just trying to help. You should not skimp out on the PSU. It is a serious part that can do some serious good or bad. It can even fry your entire build or cause a house fire. EVGA, SeaSonic, or Corsair are really the three most trusted PSU companies. I personally returned my PSU two weeks ago because it was dangerous.

I know all that i just think it's not as bad as you think it is.Evga and Seasonic are great.Corsair not that much unless you pay really good.And prices where i live are really high for pc hardware.

Nice build! I'm thinking of adding some carbon fiber tape/wrap to my build (similiar to your building on the glass), but perhaps one day...

I'm hoping FFVII.remake will be as good as the original... Makes me want to re-play the original again on my PSP or emulator! (Lost count on my re-plays for VII).

Beautiful build, man. Can tell you put a lot of thought into the aesthetics of this build, very clean. But... You sound positively miserable about this build. To each their own, I suppose, just the complaining about the price and performance of components (K series CPU's being a waste of money, Bronze Rated PSU, Mobo, The ol' tried and true S340.)

Gotta remember people buy different hardware suited to their needs, man. If you build a rig with the primary goal of it looking amazing then fair play , but don't then go and slate the hardware, especially when others may be dissuaded by your review of the parts. This hardware is perfectly competent.

First of all thanks.I did put a lot of thought in aesthetics. I have to disagree on the reviews though.When a product is not good we must give an honest review. What should i say about a noisy psu fan? or the really bad sata on the krait.? people have the right to know the truth.A truth many times kept hidden from some youtube reviews out there. You can't really expect giving 4-5 stars on every product do you.?

I understand people having different gripes with different products, perhaps what one persons 4/5 is another persons 3/5, fair. What I don't understand is putting design before functionality and then complaining that it has technical shortcomings that aren't up to your standards.

This isn't a budget build. And there is a way to frame your dislikes of a product without flatly saying it's "really really bad" or calling no additional fans with a (mid-range) case a problem and continuously stating the expense of various parts.

you are confusing functionality with built quality here.The krait is on par with many other mobos in the same price range.It's the built quality that is terrible.There's nothing more any other piece of hardwer could offer me so looks matter a lot.But a bit downgrade in quality.

I will have to disagree again.When something is bad i'll say it's bad. Not having additional fan becomes a problem when you compare it with other cases in the same category.Lack of fans,rubber grommets,fan filter are all problems.

I don't know exactly what you mean by doing the carbon fiber....it's just a carbon fiber sheet.I just had to cut it and stick it(you need a heatgun) As for the panel it's plexi glass.I drilled holes in the chassis and used thumb screws.

Painting was done in a store.i later put some Hyper X stickers on them.I couldn't find white ddr4 as well.I know there are some ballistic ones and ninja but not in my country. And i couldn't go for high profile rams either.

How did you paint? Masking tape and engine enamel spray paint? I plan on painting my ram sticks as well, but I'm not too sure if masking tape will be as good as I've read it to be.

i have no idea really what masking tape is.And i would't try painting myself any piece of metal.You can get the job done correctly to a store with like 5-10 dollars.You will lose warranty though because you will be removing the heatsinks.

Masking tape is the white, paper looking tape. It's name really speaks for itself. You use it to mask parts you don't want your color to touch, ie the pins that actually go into the mobo and whatnot, or you can use it to plan your design.

This Build had it's ram and gpu backplate painted with spray paint and masking tape.

you can always play them on emulators :) it is quite dark indeed. Keep in mind that emulators fix graphics a lot.

Don't think you have watched digital foundry's video then. Difference between i5-6500 and i5-6600k is 15fps in the witcher 3 when it's oced to 4.5ghz, same with crysis and other CPU aggressive games. Your choice of parts are pretty poor. Although it's a good looking build I have to say

You better start doing some tests yourself.Unfortunately marketing is doing it's job and people like you just buy stuff because they saw a review. Every person now thinks he need a 80+gold psu a Z170 200+ dollars mobo and a K cpu with watercooling..Go on live your false expectations.Im telling you i have tested these things myself.And i had tons of processors the last two years . 4330 i3 . i5 4690 , 4690K , i7 4790K , i5 6600K , FX 6500 , 8350 and 6300 and the differences are really really small.Even from 4690K to 4790K there's no 15 fps difference. Anyway i spent a lot of time,you can buy anything you want and you can believe anything you want.

I didn't say you need water cooling. Buying a low quality PSU for a build like that is like buying a Lamborghini without an insurance. So you are telling me that there is no 15fps difference between the fx6300 and i7-4790k??

It does have thermal paste(a separate tube) and this far it's quite good.But you can still purchase an aftermarket one,these thing are like 3-4 euros.

Just to confirm, you mean cm and not mm, I have a dark rock pro 3 which is 2mm taller than the dark rock 3 and want to get an s340 elite but I'm not sure if ill have the clearance for the slightly taller one. Thanks in advance

Not sure about what light are you talking about.If you mean the one above the gpu power connection , it stays on all the time and it's blue. The motherboard have controls in bios to turn them off.

Cosmo_Canyon - I love the tempered glass and other mods you did. Looks GREAT!

I noticed in your pictures and review of the MSI Krait Motherboard that you said the Sata connectors are oriented the wrong way. I believe thats one of the things they fixed with the Krait Gaming 3X. I also read somewhere that they are allowing some people to upgrade to the 3X. If you're really dissatisfied with it, email them and give it a shot.

Also what kind of white ties did you use on the PCIE cable? I'm exmploring options right now and dont know if I really want to put the effort of cable lacing into my current build. I like to change things up pretty often so to much to put that kind of work into it might be a deal breaker.

I'm thinking about buying nearly the same build but building it inside of the NZXT S340 Elite black, with an i5 7500 since I'm not planning on doing any oc'ing on the cpu side of things. I have questions about this build though. The ssd covers, did you get them printed somewhere with a adhesive back and then applied them onto the ssd's ? You mentioned you put stickers on the ram, do you have any links for that ? Also, how is the XFX RX 480 doing, temperature and noise wise ?

You have a very nice build going in, so nice I'm going to use it as template for my own. I buy my parts in segments and I have the NZXT S340 Elite and the NZXT HUE + so far.

Every sticker i made myself and then printed them in adhesive A4. The 480 is decent but you may run in some poorly designed games even from 2015 that won't play max settings.

It is the S340 read description.The sidepanel is custom plexiglass nothing more.

Could you provide the clearance of your CPU cooler? And did you have to raise it at all to fit the RAM?

Your mod looks great. Looking through 'See all completed builds', I thought you had jumped onto NZXT's site and bought the S340 Elite.

I wish I knew how to make tempered glass side panels. =-(

Why did you change the fan of the Dark Rock 3? I dont like the Corsair fans, they are loud and totaly overpriced, imho. I am asking because i have the same cooler and have no issues with it ;D However, super nice looking build: +1

Just for the looks. I saw no differences in peeformance or noise in conparison with the stock one. Maybe in a future mod i paint the darck rock fan white and give it a shot.

I can't seem to find the s340 ELITE here in Canadia....but I can get the S340 with the smaller side panel on it. Would you still recommend it? Great build btw, and epic honest reviews lol

Thank you.Truth must be spoken so people interested in the same hardware to know what they're getting. I don't know what you mean by S340 with the small side panel.My other two side panels(the stock ones) are the classic one, http://images.bit-tech.net/content_images/2015/03/nzxt-s340-review/s340-1b.jpg This one is just a plexi glass sheet i mounted.

Yes, that is the one that I am looking to get in white. Apparently there is an S340 Elite with a full side panel (nowhere to be found here). Your mod makes it look like that one though S340 Elite but I still don't know for sure if the only differences are just the looks of it or maybe there are some design changes as well between models.

The Elite was released at 28 last month so be patiente. You will be able to find it soon. Yes the elite has some new features beyond the tempered glass. It supports one nore ssd in the front, it has a removable dust filter for the psu, more room for front radiator, plastic mountings for better cable management on the back.. I think that's all.

if you are into mods,you can work with what you have.The 300R is great and there are tons of crazy builds in google to take some ideas :)

It depends on how you see pc gaming.For me.? no it's not good. if you want to play console ports a bit better for 3-4 times the price then yeah it's ok.The whole pc thing for me is a bad value for money.Just the last 2 months i cam across like 4 games terribly bad optimized and i just uninstalled them.
