Just over three years ago I surprised my friend with parts to build his very first gaming PC. Between the broken laptops and limitations of his xbox, I wanted to do something nice for him. Fast forward to now, his mother reached out to me about getting him a new monitor and a few upgrades as a gift for graduating as an Emergency Medical Technician.
Here is the original build Raptor Dancer. In between that time we upgraded his cpu cooler and threw in some new fans as well as a GTX 1060. I included two photos of the PC before I cleaned it... I had never worked on something so dirty in my life. Lol.
Since there is no Micro Center in Wisconsin, I went to my local MC and picked up the parts to take with me on the flight over. Had no issues going through security, though they did not like my iFixit toolkit lol.
The transplant went very smoothly, aside from an RGB cable that prevented the PC from powering on. It took me a good hour to figure out that was the issue. Zero XMP issues, yay!
I wish I took better photos, but it was a long and busy day and I honestly just forgot to.
If you have a local Micro Center, it is the best value gaming chip on the market at this time.
I was skeptical about using Gigabyte, but I'm pleased to say this board surprised me. XMP worked flawlessly, great features for the price, and plenty of fan headers.
Looks good and worked flawlessly with XMP in the Gigabyte B450 Aorus board.
You can't go wrong for the money. Amazing value. I also built in the P300 and the improved airflow and aesthetics of this iteration are much appreciated.
Still holding strong after 3 years in a very dusty and hairy environment.
