Revision 2.0 of my first gaming PC completed around 2 years ago at the end of 2016. (https://pcpartpicker.com/b/vvLD4D)
Revision 2.0 was completed around half way through 2017 and was a decent upgrade for almost no money.
Motherboard: I received a my friend's MSi Z97 ATX board in a straight up trade for my Gigabyte MATX B85 chipset board because he was building a MATX sleeper and accidentally had bought a full size ATX board. This is going to give me much more upgrade room in terms of High performance Haswell CPU's on a Z97 chipset instead of a B85.
CPU: I picked up a Intel Core i3 4170 @3.7 GHz for $100. This is the top of the line Haswell i3 and gives me significantly more multitasking and raw power abilities than the Pentium G3258 did, Even Overclocked. Unfortunately I was just out of price range of the used Haswell i5's at the time, However in a future upgrade 2K will be receiving either an Haswell i5 or an i7 as a last hurrah to the glorious LGA 1150 Socket.
Case Fans: Next I picked up 3X Blue Corsair SP120's to replace the lackluster stock SPEC-02 case fans. 2 Intake fans and one rear exhaust fan. Went with an entirely blue theme because I did a personality build of 2K-Tan, She's the most professional cool and collected out of all the other OS-Tan's therefore I figured Blue would be a great fit, That and all her outfits always tend to be primarily blue.
Aesthetics: Added a portrait of 2K on the side glass to add more personality and flair along with adding to the "Personality build of 2K", Also marginally improved cable management over Rev 1.0
Headset: Picked up a pair of Arctis 5's at Best Buy for free under an extended 2 year warranty as my Sony Gold 7.1's had recently died. Again the Arctis 5's are set to blue to match 2K's personality.
Extra HDD: Wiped a 5400 RPM 320 GB Seagate Momentus Thin HDD that came out of one of my laptops and i'm using it as reserve space in tandem with my 1TB 7200RPM Seagate drive.
Yes 2K is certainly starting to show her age but I have another upgrade planned ASAP that will be the most radical Revision yet with the absolute most raw computing power she's had yet. I mainly use her for medium to light gaming, Video editing and Photoshop and she handles all these tasks really well for being as antiquated as she is.
And just as a testament to how well this system has held up it's been through several moving endeavors with me as I've had to live in my car several times and this PC has even went all the way across the country to Wisconsin from Florida in my 1993 Mazda NA Miata for the whole way and back LOL. Despite all of this I've never had one issue or hardware failure from the entire PC.
Let me know what you guys think!
