Description

This is the final stage in what has been a series of upgrades and modifications.

Here it is in all its glory, my very own custom built mini-itx gaming PC.

Small but mighty.

*possibly the smallest and fastest rig on the planet but don't quote me on that

Obviously the case doesn't come like that and neither does the Power LED so I did what any engineer would do, take it apart and make it mine.

List of modifications:

One side of the case was cut to allow better airflow to GPU and make it a more open design

Changed the power led from blue to red (Log:http://imgur.com/a/cvyyG)

Sanded, Primed and Painted the case with a black and red theme ( Log: http://imgur.com/a/X6ZjM)

What's Next ?

Well I want to build a custom loop in this case, why ? because I was told it cant be done.

I have done some maths regarding flow rates and heat dissipation from a thicker rad, my conclusion at the moment is that I will go ahead with my plan in a few months.

Only a few things are holding me back at the moment: Time Full cover block for the gtx970 mini

Part Reviews

CPU

Solid Processor in terms of performance, eats through rendering heavy applications and likes it when i stream CS:GO. 10/10 would buy again

CPU Cooler

Decent cpu cooler, takes up alot of space with push/pull but the temps are worth the sacrifice. 8/10 would buy again.

Motherboard

It's a motherboard and has all the features you will probably ever need. 10/10 would buy again

Memory

RAM IS RAM, apart from the low profile which is a god send in a small case its just another stick of ram. 10/10 would buy again

Storage

5 second cold boots, nuff said 10/10 would buy again

Storage

stores games and other crap i dont need all the time . 10/10 would buy again

Video Card

kek, nvidia shafted me but its all good. 8/10 would buy again

Case

Voided my warranty but i love it even more now. 10/10 would buy again

Power Supply

small, quiet and efficient. great power supply. 10/10 would buy again

Awesome build- inspired me to use the Cooler Master Elite 110 for my build! :-)

Dude- that keyboard rocks! What is that?

mack_5991 submitter 5 Builds 2 points 22 months ago

Cheers for that!

Sadly i dont think its available from Amazon anymore but here is a link http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00A2LLD1W

BTW which red led did you get?

I noticed in the parts list break down in your description, each of the titles for each part says, "CPU". Was that you or the new site that made a mistake?

For instance:

CPU

be quiet! POWER 2 400W 80+ Bronze Certified SFX Power Supply small, quiet and efficient. great power supply. 10/10 would buy again

Does the PSU have to be SFX or can it be a full form factor?

mack_5991 submitter 5 Builds 2 points 32 months ago

I think thats just a teething problem with the new layout, ill speak to manirelli about it.

it fits an atx power supply ,but with an sfx psu i have more room to play with.

vikingXcore 4 Builds 2 points 32 months ago

good to know about the PSU! I love that case. I really wanna work in it.

mack_5991 submitter 5 Builds 1 point 32 months ago

its challenging but the end result is absolutely worth it.

paintboy131 1 Build 2 points 32 months ago

Very nice build! Really like everything about it, parts, looks, especially the case mod!

MaskedMonster21 1 Build 2 points 32 months ago

Awesome custom work man, that build looks sweet! Definitely +1 from me

Thanks man!

I have a very similar build, but with an Asrock Mobo and 4690k. Surprised you're able to keep the temps under 70C on the GPU, even with the case modification you made to open it up. The cooling on the Gigabyte mini 970 is its only weak point IMO. I had to add a couple of fans on the side in order to keep mine at 68C (before I added them temps were more like 78C at load).

Then again, I don't have the best placement of my PC either. It's sort of on a cramped shelf.

mack_5991 submitter 5 Builds 1 point 32 months ago

I reapplied the thermal paste on the gpu and its on my desk so it gets a lot of fresh air.

Nice build! I am looking into making a small build like this and am trying to find the graphics cards people are using. Also, +1 for the KBT Race!

mack_5991 submitter 5 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

I used the Gigabyte GTX970 MINI in this build, but there are few cards available at this form factor.

howtobuildapc 2 points 30 months ago

For the Price that´s well but there´s not much situations when you really use the size of that PC. The mini ITX builds only works if you travel frequently

martinmwwebb 4 Builds 2 points 25 months ago

I Like what you've done with a tiny space!

Personally i think you should have done the whole case red apart from the details, the stripes look slightly rushed and not masked off correctly. also think it could do with a gloss top coat to make it look 'slick'

Utopia0 2 points 24 months ago

would you rate the 970 3.5 out of 4

mack_5991 submitter 5 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

nice nice.

BruhBrandon7 2 points 20 months ago

Awesome build dude +1! What about an R9 Nano? Much more appealing now at its recent price drop to $500.

göer 2 Builds 2 points 2 months ago

What a build! What a lovely build! I came across your ITX gaming build when building my own. I was also planning to put some custom paintjob on Elite 110 case. My questions are, is that red paintjob applied via spray annnnd how did you make these glorious stickers? :)

mack_5991 submitter 5 Builds 1 point 1 month ago

I painted the case black as a base colour. added masking tape to achieve the stripes. spray painted red, i used automotive paint because the finish is more realistic.

The stickers i received from pcpartpicker because i sent them a postcard. to do the same check out this link : https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/contact/

hope this is clear.
