Description

Hi Ive had this case for about 6 months now and its been a labour of love and frustrating as hell - its difficult to get good temperatures in this case the way its designed - I removed the hdd bay at the bottom and cut a hole in the bottom of the case - this got gpu temps down from 80-90 degrees to 60-70 degrees under heavy load (ie maxed out 1440p modern releases - it will deliver 50-60fps consistently). I had a noctua low profile cpu cooler - its almost impossible to get good cpu temps though becasue of poor airflow - i tried changing front fan to exhaust which didnt help - i put in a slim fan under gpu but this didnt work (it was very noisey as well as it was right in front of gpu fan). Finally I tried to install liquid cpu cooler. At one point I got so frustrated (having stripped and rebuilt the computer about 5 times) i threw the case in the bin. I had to cut out the front aluminium fan mount and mount a low profile fan onto fron to case to accomodate the radiator. This worked with not even a millimetre to spare for the gpu but some how it all fitted. There are 3 2.5 drives (one ssd) at top of case in optical bay drive.

You could pick up a 1060 for about the same price as that 970 but still a great build.

Edit: the 1060 is actually 50 bucks cheaper.

I think it's quite obvious that this card was bought a while ago...

But the build was published today

Thanks I bought the card a while ago - originally I bought an itx gtx 660 and was intending this as a second computer as I had a 980 ti in my bit fenix prodigy but then i sort of fell in love with the case and got the 970

Cool, I just thought you might as well upgrade. The 1060 is getting close to the higher end 9 series cards so maybe you might consider selling one and buying it?

Why upgrade for a tiny performance boost I have a 970 as well and selling to get a 1060 just sounds like a waste of time and money

Couldn't you flip the rad so the tubing isn't under so much stress, then flip the block to accommodate for the extra tubing? Also why an sfx-l psu instead just regular sfx, because it seems like the extra length would make it that much harder to work with

Thanks for the suggestion - I couldnt get the ram in with the radiator the other way - I got that psu because other people had recommended it online - the psu isnt really a major problem to fit in tbh but maybe a smaller psu would have been a good idea

Thanks I meant custom in the sense I had to customise the case. One of the things Ive realised is that GPU temp is considerably lower with watercooled CPU - its now 50-60 deg under load - must be becasue of the heat generated directly behind it from hot cpu
