Description

READ HERE- This build is still under construction! Only one of the loops is filled and I will post more pics of it when it's done!

Once upon a time, a legend was born, a legend named Danny Whalen. Then he was blessed with a wealthy family and had become interested in computers. He then took all this **** in the list below and threw it into a metal box and BAM. The Holy Grail was born.

Well this is meant for 3 monitor gaming (no I didn't buy 2 980's to play on one monitor, pshhh 1 monitor peasant gaming) and I used to have 2 780 ti's in my old PC, Thoth(Ask me if you want me to upload a picture of that Pc, as I will) and this is a watercooling upgrade from my old air cooled 4770k and 780 ti's. Hope you like it and leave me some questions down below :).

PS- I'm 13 so don't hate because I didn't pay for any of this.. cough cough.

Still don't understand how people think this is a age limiting thing...?

It used to be, and to be honest I think it's better that way. Sometimes people get paid to do easy tasks.

Well, my parents are paid to fund this

32GB - Are you running multiple VMs or deal with huge databases? Because I cannot really understand why you need so much RAM. At least, I hope you didn't pay $185 each....

Watercooling - how you managed to spend $2500? Can you list your components? I have 360+480 top-notch Alphacool radiators, very good pump+reserve, top-notch EK blocks, etc... and I would touch 1k only with the second GPU block. Even with two (more or less useless) loops and acrylic tubing, you shouldn't have spent 1.5k more...

Monitors - why not a ROG Swift or (multiple) 144Hz monitor since you play BF4?

You spent 7k and you don't even have a X99 system.....

Something else that bothers me: where is the optical drive that is in the parts list? There looks like there is no place to install it in that Case Labs case, not with all the watercooling loops in the way.

  • 1 point

I bought an optical drive, that's why it's included in the list. I noticed that there was absolutely no room for a 5.25 bay due to the reservoirs being in the way. I am going to get an external DVD drive but I already have Windows and everything installed on the hard drives so it isn't necessary for me to cram one in.

I forgot one point: why a Maximus VII Formula? Unless you are planning extreme OC, it was a bad choice...

  • 1 point

I am planning an extreme OC. What kind of person does this extreme loop and doesn't OC to the max?

  • 1 point

Nice build, but it better be for $7000. You should have gone with the X99 platform. The custom loop isn't going to do that much for you to justify the $2500. I can hit 4.7 Ghz on my 4790K without ever breaking 63 degrees on Aida64 with an H100i. It was also a waste to upgrade to a 4790K if you had a 4770K. You could have just delidded the 4770K and had the same performance.

  • 1 point

My friend bought my 4770k for good money, and it wasn't a good overclocking CPU. I got a bad one of the bunch so I was happy to get the 4790k, and if you look at my description/other comments I had a VII Formula laying around so I decided x99 wasn't worth it just for gaming

  • 0 points

And also I'm hitting 4.9ghz (going to go to 5ghz if it's stable) and staying at 30-40 degrees Celsius under load

  • 1 point

You should definitely overclock the RAM too, 2133 Mhz @ CL10 isn't that fast. I'm running 16 GB of Trident X @ 2400 Mhz CL9. Fast memory > more, but slower memory in gaming.

  • 1 point

This memory was in my previous system and I was going to upgrade to 2400mhz (I've used 2400mhz in the 7 other systems I've built) and I decided it wasn't a big deal for me, but I will most likely end up overclocking it as I've maxed out my GPU's/CPU

I had a PC before this and my Dads slogan was, "Go big or go home". I told him 16gb would be more than enough, but he told me to just get 32gb for the hell of it, also I think the RAM may have been on sale when I first got it. Watercooling... Eh if you where here with me on the journey I went threw to get this monster assembled you would understand, I've made 3 trips to FrozenCPU, 1 that was $1,800(I'll try to find the list of parts when I get home) and then one more trip of about $100-$200 because one of the radiators broke and I needed 2 more Male to male fittings for the pumps. Then the last one was because I needed more tubing, and alot of rotary fittings for the passthroughs to the bottom as the radiator was too close for a regular compression fitting. I also replaced the passthroughs with new shorter ones and got lighting, and several other extra extensions for it to work. This thing was a lot of work, I repeat A LOT of work.

Monitors- I have 3 1080p 60hz monitors and you would be very suprised what It takes to run BF4 on 3 only 1080p monitors with full FOV and everything. I couldn't imagine a 64 player server with 3 1440p monitors...

Also I was going to do X99 but I know this sounds really stupid, I had the VII Formula laying around. Yes I have high end parts laying around my house that aren't being used.

  • Extreme OC = sub-ambient. Any $200 mobo would have been enough...
  • Still think that 32gb is a waste. Particularly since "I'm not editing or anything"..
  • Eager to see the part list. I bought my stuff from a similar store (in multiple orders, too) and spent way less. There is less bling, but still 1.5k less...
  • I'm not criticizing the choice of two 980, but the choice of a surround system over high refresh rate monitor(s) for FPS gaming. But, de gustibus non est disputandum...
  • -1 points
  • As I said, I had the VII Formula laying around. (reduce, reuse, and recycle)
  • You didn't read my explanation enough, Go big or go home...

  • I will try to get that to you

  • I enjoy my surround gaming, It's all based on preference

:( "One monitor gaming peasant" that hurts real bad... imo I would spend around $500 on one good monitor because I just can't handle the * borders that companies are not changing!@#~)~@$!!

On another note, wonderful build!

One a side note: Why did you get the kone xtd optical over the laser version? just preference?

  • 1 point

I bought the Kone XTD at bestbuy 2 years ago and I just love the way it fits to my hand, I have very large hands also.

EDIT-I used to game on one monitor but I do ALL of my work on my PC so the 3 monitors is awesome for gaming and I love it for multitasking

Why the lack of upvotes? Or the abundance of downvotes? I think this system is brilliant!

  • 2 points

It looks very well constructed and honor to that (it looks way nicer than my PC), but there are many doubtful hardware choices.

Moreover, as fellow (way) older BF4 player, that three 1080p 60hz monitors setup looks like a very weird choice...

  • 1 point

I only get 70-80 fps on BF4 maxed on the 3 1080p monitors so I found that these monitors looked very sleek and that they where just what I needed. Anything over 60hz on 3 monitors didn't make a difference to me unless I was using a single monitor. (Yes I have experience with monitors with higher refresh rates)

Bro, don't listen to these people making fun of how your parents bought it with all their money blahblah. But do listen to the people telling you that it was a bit of a waste to spend 7k on a z97 platform. You made this impression custom water loop, but what is there to cool? a closed AIO cooler like corsair would be overkill for a 4790k, let alone a full on custom water loop with that big of a radiator. Other than that it looks real nice. Just take the comments as advice to when you wanna change some things in the build.

I had a VII formula laying around.

Never heard of that SSD, then again I haven't been keeping up lately. Any reason you didn't go with a higher capacity SSD? The performance per dollar on SSDs is quite significant. If I were to drop 7k, I would at least get an SSD with 1 TB from reputable manufacturer like Samsung. Better yet, go all SSD.

Oh just saw that you already have a 120 GB 840 EVO. But still, I would have got 2 850 Pros if I had mom and pop's money.

  • 1 point

I have more SSD's now.

Hey kudos on the custom loop. I'm 14 and am doing a 1500 build but after two builds ill do maybe a 5k build. (I make 200 a month so do the numbers on how long until I can afford that baby). I did have a couple questions. Firstly, call me cheap, but how are the Chinese Chroma Switches? Thinking about Spray Painting my keyboard white (I am doing a white h440 build). Also, I heard you had extra tubing and misc. items. I assume you cannot return those? Well, if you are not using them, I would love to buy them off of you. Lastly my question is why on Earth did you go triple monitor with those 23 inch lower ends monitors (no offense just personal preference), you should have gone AT LEAST vg248qe with 2 980s. I have seen some great benchmarks with those things even on triple monitor and considering you have two, there can't be anything better unless you go dual titan x. Anyways sweet build and it goes to show that even though you did not earn your $'s, you still know your shtick and made a sick build.

  • 1 point

By the way, your craftsmanship gives you a +50 in my book, but that astro headset gives you a -10 for me. Mate, get ATH-M50 and a Blue Yeti. Ath-m50 has better sound quality then the astros (look up reviews) and a blue yeti is just like the perfect budget professional mic (got mine brand new for 75 bucks).

I have 3 BenQ 144hz monitors now. I just don't update this page anymore. And I am going to do a Titan X upgrade tho

  • 1 point

First of all, I'm leaving a downvote not because of jealousy, its the way you put other people down. 32 GB is complete overkill for ANY Current game even when running 3 monitors on maxed settings. "1 monitor peasant gaming" is quite offending for those of us who run games on one monitor. What kind of watercooling kit costs 2500? You are going to have a hard time whenever it comes to managing your money. But overall, nice build. Just wasteful in some areas. 2 780 Ti's are more than I would ever hope to get in my rig.

  • 1 point

A: there is no way you're 13 B: I doubt that your parents just gave you 7k to spend C: I doubt that you're born in a "wealthy" family D: I can tell you're an ******* by your comments E: 1080p x3 bleh 1440p is better F: 1 monitor people suck then you need a gun pointed to your head and the trigger pulled G: Doubt you're going to a Titan X

I finished it so long ago, heck I've rebuilt it twice since then. It has 3 980 ti's and a 5930k now lol

when you gonna submit pics? and are they EVGA 980 Ti's? and that 5930k is a bit excessive. Dont you think? 5820k would have sufficed.
