Description

My brother has an old Mac & various consoles. I told him I could put together an inexpensive PC which would compete with his consoles & he'd be able to upgrade with a new GPU if he wanted to.

The only game I have loaded is CSGO & even though its no real test it runs it at 200 FPS.

I'm pretty sure he'll only use this PC for gaming & web browsing.

Part Reviews

CPU

Had this CPU since purchasing new in the middle of 2013. A reliable reasonable performer.

CPU Cooler

Only had this for a few months on another PC which I upgraded to a K skew CPU & upgraded its cooler at the same time. This keeps the 3470 under 30 degrees at idle and between 40-50 degrees under load.

Motherboard

Bare bones motherboard from 2013.

Memory

Pinched this from a 32 Gb kit in another PC.

Storage

Have used this as boot drive in another of my builds. Is fast enough.

Storage

Salvaged from an office PC being junked.

Video Card

Purchased as a pair on eBay. Note that one of them is a HD 6950. I was concerned the blower style would be noisy and bought replacement heat sinks and fans but haven't used them. The noise isn't too bad. If you overlook the terrible decals and power munching nature of these cards the most you can say is they do the job.

Case

Bare bones case. Easy enough to work in. Only just enough room for cable management. End visual result is good for the money.

Case Fan

Have used these before. Very quiet and push a lot of air. Splurged in this rig to add some colour and lighting.

Yeah Csgo isnt much a test I agree but if it's getting 200 for it will run good for other games

Why so much low score on those PC parts?

what I was wondering, seems a bit suspicious.

Don't know why it would be suspicious. Parts were great for their time & still deliver good performance for $ (even here in Aus where PC parts are way overpriced), however when comparing to more modern parts its hard to deliver 5 stars. I honestly think if my bro whacks a 1060 or rx480 in this he'd have an excellent gaming machine that will perform well for another couple of years.

I have also built up for my little bro a 3470 with a rx 480 oc'ed using a 1900 x 1200p monitor and plays bf1 in ultra 70- 80fps everything else seems to be 60fps pretty much bar arma 3 i think is 30-40fps but we all know that game is really cpu heavy!

Good job on the used build and being able to source the parts, this a nice upgrade form a console.
